The Crook family:
1. Rose Ella “Ellen” Crook (b. Dec. 13, 1867 near San Francisco, California-d. Mar. 1962) Aged 94 years old; 1940 census: occupation farmer on a general farm ; immigrated about 1883 to Hawaii on census;1916: retired from teaching at Makawao School; Helped to develop Makawao Town after her father; Helped to create Maui Humane Society and Maui Women’s Club
2. Crook “Mother” (b. June, 1841 in Ireland-d. 1898 at sea) Mary Whitfield Cross; may have been buried at the William Crook family home in Makawao.
3. Gussie Mann Smith (b. 1901 in Pahala, Kau-d. Sept. 27, 1974)
daughter of Angela Crook and William Mann;”Beloved Mother”
4. Irene Crook Foss (b. Feb. 26, 1885-d. Oct. 8, 1931) Sister of “Ellen”
1920 census: (Maui News: William C. Crook (b. 1839 in England), principal of Paia School; Arrived in 1880 on Maui) Widowed. Opened first school taught in English at Kaheka; brothers of Ellen: Avon Horace (1873-1953) and Lawrence Ryan (1879-1932) Crook

I learned that my father’s name was changed when he was 5 years old. He never said anything. His grandfather was William Crook. Not sure if is the same family or not. I’m trying to learn more.
